They are preparing to race with a hose reel, which was the principal piece of equipment of the time. It was pulled by as many as eighteen men with two men handling the guide shafts. The Deluge Company was based in the Number 1 Hose House, 220 North Market.

Description: Residence identified as the second home of Robert Lawrence at 415 South Seneca Street. Example of Victorian Romanesque architecture. The structure and grounds were purchased in 1896 by the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M for use as the Kansas Masonic Home for aging members and orphans. The building was destroyed by fire in 1916 and replaced by the current compound on the same location at the intersection of Maple and Seneca Streets.
