A header card on top of the streetcar reads “College Hill/Union Depot.” The view is looking west toward the Broadview Hotel. Other business signs visible on the north side of Douglas are: Holland Theater (118 East Douglas), Braitsch Shoe Company (120 East Douglas), Jones-O’Neal Shoe Company (126 East Douglas). Also in view, Fourth National Bank (202 East Douglas), and the Winne Building (210 East Douglas).

It was named for John Mack who died during the construction of the bridge. He was a prominent newspaper publisher, state representative and member of the state highway commission for this district. The bridge was an example of the Rainbow Arch as well as the longest bridge in Kansas.
