Description: Looking northeast from intersection of Broadway and First Street. The Orpheum Theatre opened in 1922 featuring vaudeville acts and a silent film. In 1929 it began a tradition as a premier motion picture palace that ended in 1976. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Theatres. Another business in view is Dr. C. M. Cole, Dentist, in the Orpheum Building, and Mosbacher Hudson Terraplane Sales and Service at 214 North Broadway.

At right is memorial park and fountain installed in 1934 to commemorate Wichita banker Ben McLean. Business names in view include: Fred Wasson Oil Company, J. W.
