The bridge was constructed in 1933 to replace a former, unsafe bridge. It was built with federal relief funds provided by the Civil Works Administration (CWA) during the Great Depression. The tower of Wichita High School North rises over the trees in the distant center background. The shadow of the photographer and his camera blend into the grass and shadows in the near foreground.

Campbell residence on the west side of the river. Funds for construction of the bridge were provided by a New Deal relief program, the Civil Works Administration, during the Great Depression. The shadow of the photographer and his camera on the grass in the foreground may have been a signature of Frank Wesely.
